COLLECTORS BEARS

About me |
I have worked with textiles in many different forms over the last thirty years. I made my first bears in the late 1980s, trying to capture something of an old childhood teddy for my children. After several years developing my ideas I started Hartrick Bear Company in 1991, using an old family name. We have remained very much a small family business, specialising in individually made one-off bears in a size range of 7"-23" (18-58cm). I use mohair and alpaca fabrics in a variety of colours and pile finishes. My bears are firmly filled with woodwool - a fine wood shaving - which was traditionally used in old bears. The features are sewn with waxed thread; the eyes are glass or antique boot buttons. The pads are fine suede or wool felt. Hartrick bears are made for collectors and not as children's toys. I live and work in a beautiful part of Wales. |
